When the Communists came to Sài Gòn in 1975, firing rockets into her city, An and her family were a handful of Vietnamese who escaped in the US-led humanitarian airlift from Tân Sơn Nhứt Airport. They resettled and became the first-ever Vietnamese refugees in Wichita, Kansas. She had to learn how to be American.
